DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Director, FIM and the functional guidance of the Assistant Director-General/Regional Representative, RAP, the incumbent will implement the normative and field activities of the aquaculture related programmes of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Department, as defined in the Programme of Work and Budget for the Asia-Pacific Region. More specifically, the incumbent will:

  • provide advice to member countries on aquaculture development; elaborate various development planning tools; collect information on socio economic aspects of aquaculture;
  • monitor and report on the status, trends and key issues in aquaculture development in the Region;
  • collect, analyse and disseminate new and improved aquaculture technologies to Members;
  • participate in field missions to assist in the formulation, monitoring and review of field projects; participate in sectoral review missions;
  • provide technical assistance to members on request and technical backstopping to field projects;
  • contribute to organizing FAO and APFIC sponsored technical meetings, workshops and training courses on aquaculture in the region;
  • act as focal point of the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific for the collection and dissemination of information on aquaculture in the Region;
  • serve as technical contact with collaborating agencies/institutions in the Region and represent FAO/RAP at their meetings;
  • perform other related duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:


  • Advanced University Degree in Aquaculture or related discipline applicable to aquaculture development and management;
  • Seven years of responsible professional experience, including normative and field work on various aspects of aquaculture development both in inland and coastal areas in the region, with emphasis on rural aquaculture development and environmental sustainability aspects; complementary work experience in the area of fisheries both inland and marine;
  • Working knowledge (level C) of English
SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:


  • Extent and relevance of experience in responsible aquaculture management work at regional and international level and understanding the key issues relating to aquaculture development , and understanding of general issues of capture fisheries in the region;
  • Extent of experience of working with FAO Member governments;
  • Extent of experience in formulating and implementing field projects and programmes;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
  • Good publication records;
  • Knowledge of other languages spoken in the region;

Please note that all candidates should possess computer/word processing skills and should be capable of working with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
* The length of appointment for internal FAO candidates will be established in accordance with applicable policies pertaining to the extension of appointments.

REMUNERATION


Level P-4 carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post adjustment) from US$ 86,815 US$ 108,849 (without dependants) and from US$ 93,227 to US$ 117,564 (with dependants)

The Department of Fish and Game currently has two openings
Ahsahka(CDL see below) and Wendell.

The hiring list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future statewide openings for Fish Culturist!

Responsibilities:

    * Induces fish spawning and monitors development of eggs and fry.
    * Implements feeding schedules required for specified growth rates.
    * Cleans hatching tanks and raceways.
    * Implements water and feed treatments and prophylactic measures.
    * Loads, transports and plants fish.
    * Conducts hatchery tours and explains operation.
    * Assists in maintenance of hatchery equipment, buildings and grounds.

General Information:

Some positions require the incumbents to possess a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement or be willing to obtain one within the six-month probationary period (see question #6 on the examination). For those positions requiring a CDL, incumbents must pass a pre-employment controlled substance screening test. Once a CDL is obtained, the employee is required to participate in the Department's drug/alcohol testing program and comply with all of its provisions. Failure to satisfy any of these requirements will result in a failure to complete the probationary period and termination from employment. Not all positions require a CDL.

Minimum Qualifications:

    * Good knowledge of aquaculture and ichthyology and the growing and maintaining of fish.
    * Some knowledge of report writing involving scientific or biological data and terms.
    * Experience: communicating orally in one-to-one and group situations; entering and retrieving data, preparing statistical reports, and using and maintaining various types of databases.
